Each Middle School team of up to 15 students prepares throughout the year to compete in Science Olympiad tournaments held on regional, state, and national levels. Participants partner up to compete in a variety of events which challenge students to design and build, conduct laboratory experiments, and study challenging science disciplines. Hickman Charter’s team has won numerous Stanislaus Regional Competitions and our students have experienced great individual success at the State Finals. Science Olympiad offers a powerful opportunity for our parent educators to participate in raising the level of scientific awareness and academic achievement for their students while at the same time promoting cooperative learning and competitive team spirit!
This is an annual competition for 7th and 8th grade. Our HMS team works all year to prepare for the big events. Categories include: social science, science, mathematics, fine art, speech, essay, and literature.
This year’s theme is The Cold War. Students are excitedly reading this year’s Aca Penta novel.
Academic Pentathlon
Every year, Michelle Blaze hosts our seventh and eighth-grade students in our school spelling bee. Two winners of our campus bee represent our school at the SCOE annual Junior High Spelling Championship. Both are written competitions, and the winner of the county’s bee moves on to state competitions.
Our campus bee is always a well attended school event with many participants, and students are always excited to share the words they knew and the ones that eliminated them. The sixth-grade students participate and compete in the elementary spelling bee per SCOE guidelines.
