Mathematics

Hickman Charter School offers many options for all students, including:

  •
  • Yearlong on-site classes are available on Tuesdays for all grade levels. Our thematic offerings are supplemental to the student’s core math program but will provide instruction and activities to address the major work of the grade level.
  • For students who might benefit  from a different approach, we make online offerings available to supplement our regular math programs. Click on the  tab at the left to learn more about our current offerings.
  • Game of the Month” is a collection of simple games to be played at home. The Hickman Charter School Community of all ages will join together in playing one of these games each month, August – May. We hope playing these games throughout the month will enable our families to have fun and to try to master the strategies and number concepts that make for successful game playing.
  • In the 2012-2013 school year we introduced the “Math Spiral” to our families, and continue to provide current content, (access via links in the left column).  Its purpose is to provide small daily doses of mathematics practice to insure that each students has mastered the various skills necessary for success in the study of math. The Math Spiral is targeted toward students in grades 6-8, but Education Coordinators may determine it to be appropriate for younger students as well.
  • Newsletter Math was offered for several years, but has been replaced with newer options. The problems were designed to get kids thinking, solving and communicating their reasoning as they work through non-routine math problems.  Though we no longer offer Newsletter Math monthly, please refer to the archives in the left column to view some of the content.
  • As part of our parent training, we offer math workshops that provide ideas for breathing new life into at-home math instruction by promoting positive math experiences beyond the daily lessons.
  • 6th-8th Grade Math Help: Services of credentialed math teachers are just an email away when our families need help with tricky spots in their math journeys. No matter what curriculum our families use, our teachers can provide help. To access their assistance,  families are asked to compose an email that includes both student and education coordinator name, curriculum being used, and the topic/specific details about the need for help, and send to the grade-specific email listed below:
    6th Grade: mathhelp6@hickmanschools.org
    7th Grade: mathhelp7@hickmanschools.org
    8th Grade: mathhelp8@hickmanschools.org
Families can expect to receive a response within a day.
