We have a dedicated team of teachers at Hickman Charter who believe the learning of Social Sciences happens best when students are engaged in meaningful activities to which they can personally relate. The support we offer families comes in many forms and can help bring textbooks to life.

  • We offer a variety of standard adoptions of textbook materials, as well as supplemental materials and online resources covering a wide range of interests in the social sciences.  A portion of our collection includes various historical fiction reading materials that can be used by those desiring a literature-based curriculum.
  • Thematic Tuesday classes are available for our TK-8 families.
  • Subject-specific activity groups meet for activities and field trips. Recently we hosted a series of “Walk Through” days for families from the various history groups. These are high-energy, participatory events where students prepare ahead for roles they play, and many even come in costume!
  • Pacing guides help students to maximize the benefit of using a social science textbook.
  • Supplemental video material is available in our Annex’s large collection of VHS and DVD titles.
  • Discovery Education is a subscription online offering available for our families. Contact your EC for information to create your own account.
